Students’ Union Announce Charity Partners

University of Galway Students’ Union today announced their charity partners for the 2026/27 academic year who are Galway Rape Crisis Centre and The Irish Cancer Society. The Union will be holding fundraising events throughout the year on behalf of the two charities.

Students’ Union President Seán de Búrca said: “We are very excited to raise much needed funds for these two amazing charities. Over the academic year our events will help our students and staff to feel part of the University community, volunteer, have fun and keep active while fundraising.”

Cathy Connolly Executive Director of Galway Rape Crisis Centre said: “We are so pleased to have been nominated as one of the University of Galway Students’ Union Charities. We really appreciate the support of the student body. This initiative will help us to offer counselling to our crisis clients impacted by sexual violence and reduce our waiting list. We look forward to the year ahead in partnership with University of Galway Students’ Union.’’

Jason Jenkinson Fundraising Officer with The Irish Cancer Society, said: “We are delighted to be chosen by the University of Galway Students’ Union as one of their nominated charities for 2026/2027. The funds they kindly raise for The Irish Cancer Society will be used to help fund vital supports for cancer patients and their families, including expert counselling, welfare support, transport to chemotherapy, and for those at the end of life, Night Nursing care at home surrounded by their loved ones”.

Galway Rape Crisis Centre is dedicated to providing a professional, caring and confidential counselling and support service for those in our community affected by sexual abuse and sexual violence.

The Irish Cancer Society is the national charity in Ireland dedicated to preventing cancer, funding research, and supporting people affected by the disease.

Galway Rape Crisis Centre offers a Counselling Service in Oughterard, Co. Galway every Monday from 10am–4pm.
