Galway Rape Crisis Centre Helpline: 1800 355 355
Email: [email protected]
(Monday – Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.)
The helpline is often the first point of contact for survivors. Every caller is treated as an individual with respect and dignity and given the time and understanding they need to get the help and support they deserve. The helpline is staffed by highly trained support staff at Galway Rape Crisis Centre.
Many clients are referred to us by their GPs, social workers or other professionals, most survivors however contact us themselves.
The helpline provides you with the option to continue receiving telephone support or to make an appointment and receive one-to-one counselling with our experienced and qualified counsellors at our centre in Foster Court, Galway City or at our outreach services in Ballinasloe, Gort, Tuam and Oughterard.
It is also there as a support service to on-going clients, supporters of survivors or anyone who might like to talk about issues relating to sexual violence or to find out more about our services, ask question and obtain information.
GRCC Helpline allows you to enquire into our accompaniment services where a trained member of our team will accompany you to the necessary service you require e.g. court, garda or medical service.
All calls are confidential. Callers have the choice of whether or not to share their real name or phone number with the helpline support staff.
Helpline Statistics 2020
The helpline is available from 10am to 1pm Monday to Friday. There were 8,347 calls, texts and
emails to/from Galway Rape Crisis Centre in 2020. This is an increase of 36% on 2019.
There is no way to tell before the call is answered who might be on the other side and just how important that first phone call can be to a survivor as they start on a challenging path to unburdening themselves from the impacts sexual violence has had on their lives.
